Miracles surround us, but some are rather outstanding and leave you in awe, sometimes in disbelief. Growing up, I believed in miracles because of Bible stories. There wasn’t a personal encounter or recognition of miracles at the time because I was young and had not gone far in my faith walk.
I woke up one morning in early 2017, and my left ear was blocked. It didn’t bother me at first because I believed it was one of those things that happen to people when they wake up early in the morning. By noon, I’ll be fine…so I thought. Night came, and my ear was still blocked. Worry started to creep in as I had tried everything possible during the day to unclog my ear to no avail. I went to bed as usual, but what I woke up to in the morning made my worry skyrocket.

As I gained full awareness of my surroundings when my eyes opened, the left side of my face felt wet. I sat up to look at my pillow, and what met my eyes shocked me to my core. There was a trail of yellow, foul-smelling liquid on my pillow. It looked like mucus, with traces of whitish liquid. I quickly called on my sister to come take a look, and she was confused. I wasn’t feverish or feeling sick in any way, so we ruled out any form of sudden illness. After asking me a series of questions, the next line of action was to get me on antibiotics, as we concluded that it was an infection.
The antibiotics seemed to work because I got better. However, what we thought had ended was just getting started. After about 6 weeks, I woke up with the same blocked left ear. This time, I went to the hospital, and I was asked to run a series of tests, including an ear swab test, which I did. The results came out, and it was ruled as a bacterial infection, for which I was given antibiotics to treat. It took me 2 weeks to finish all the administered drugs, but there was no improvement.
All the while that this was on, I was deaf in my left ear, and it not only affected my hearing but also my speech. It was then that I really understood what I had learned in Biology class years prior, that the ears are responsible for our balance. I would get dizzy randomly, and my head constantly felt like I was underwater, where everything sounded muffled.
This lasted for 8 months.
One night in December, I had an unforgettable experience which led to my healing. I started feeling a terrible pain in my ear, which felt worse than menstrual cramps. When asked to describe the level of pain, I gauged it at a 12 out of 10. It was evening time, and I had just finished freshening up after cooking. Next thing I knew, my ear started ringing and pulsating. I thought it was something normal painkillers could handle, and I popped 3 tablets of paracetamol, but nothing.
The pain kept worsening as time passed, and my sister advised that I go to the hospital, which I did. At this point, I was in tears because I had never felt such pain in my life before. I got to the hospital, they took my vitals as usual, and I proceeded to see the doctor on duty. He asked me to describe my pain, and after I did, he prescribed a strong painkiller, which was administered intravenously. The drug made me drowsy and knocked me out when I got home within minutes.

As I lay on my bed in tears, I saw a bright light and then two people walking towards me. As they got closer, I recognised them. It was Jesus Christ and Mother Mary in all their glory. Mother Mary sat beside me, lifted my head slightly and placed it on her lap just like my Mum would. Then she gently touched my ear and caressed my head. Jesus stood beside us, smiling. I don’t have an idea of how long this encounter lasted, but I soon fell into a deep sleep to wake up the next morning.
When I woke up, I felt light. It was as if a burden had been lifted from my shoulders and a rebirth of some sort had taken place. My left ear was unclogged, and I could hear clearly. I thought it was a fluke, and it would soon be blocked just like before. Lo and behold, it was nighttime, I slept and woke up the next day, and it was the same thing till the moment I’m writing this story, 9 years later.
I have only shared this story with my family, but the Holy Spirit put it in my heart to share it with the world. Jesus is real, and He lives. I’m a Catholic, and I strongly believe in the intercessions of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Mother Mary as I prefer to call her).

There might be someone out there who needs their faith awakened, and maybe my story might just be the ignition.
