Turning 30

I had a conversation with my elder brother on my birthday eve and he said, “Time is a mystery.” I agree. On some days, time seems to crawl and on other days, it moves with the speed of light. You’re 21 today and then all of a sudden, you’re turning 30. It’s truly amazing and quite scary.

I’m filled with so much happiness and gratitude. I mean, to have lived for 30 years is something to be happy about. Top that with good health, a support system, family and friends, I can only be grateful to God. I journeyed through childhood, my teenage years and a rather bumpy 20s to arrive here in one piece.

Clocking 30 as a single lady comes with so much societal pressure and expectations. You’re expected to have attained a certain level in your career, you should have built a home and basically just have your life together. But life isn’t that smooth and predictable. It happens differently to everyone and our journeys are unique.

In all sincerity, your 20s prepare you for adulthood. They serve as a roadmap. They are your self discovery years where you’re allowed to make many mistakes, learn from them and make better life choices and decisions. Your circle of friends become smaller and more defined. Surviving your 20s is an actual achievement.

A New Journey

This is the decade where things fall in place. (I’m speaking things into existence) There’s this feeling of clarity that has embraced me and I feel like I’ve gathered enough experience to see me through this new phase. It’s a new beginning and I believe I’m fully equipped to embark on this journey. I’m more confident in my abilities and more self aware than ever before.

30 was the year of breakthrough and achieving major goals in the biblical times. Joseph was 30 years old when he became 2nd in command to Pharaoh. David became king at 30. Ezekiel was called by God to be a prophet when he was 30 and Jesus started his ministry at 30. See the pattern of greatness?

Let the journey begin!
