The COVID-19 Lock Down In Retrospect.

First things first; if you’re reading this, congratulations! You survived a pandemic and have made it to the last quarter of 2020. The whole world came to a standstill and we were engulfed in fear. More than 500,000 people died, jobs were lost, salaries slashed, schools shut down, no weddings, no religious gatherings, no outings, no sports…It was the longest and toughest 5 months we had ever witnessed. Although, we’re not completely out of the lock down, we survived the most part of it and for that, I am grateful.

In situations like this, there are bound to be conspiracy theories and the internet is littered with a good number of them. The most popular of all is that COVID-19 was engineered at a lab in Asia and it was being spread to the rest of the world to disrupt our economies and enrich a few wealthy individuals who control the affairs of the world. Well, anything is possible and I’m not here to dwell on these theories today.

In this post, I addressed my feelings at the beginning of the lock down and how it affected me and my loved ones. Albeit hopeful, I was genuinely scared. The what ifs were flooding in but I have trained my mind to a level where I choose HOPE above all things. “It can only get better.” and “This too, shall pass” are my mantras.

The new normal

There is Hope

In retrospect, I believe the world needed that pause. It seemed like we were going too fast and losing focus on the things that really mattered. Personally speaking, March-August 2020 had defining moments for me. I lost my job due to the pandemic but gained another soon enough. I had time to plan and figure out what I actually wanted to do as regards my career. Things are not 100% smooth but there was a change for the better. Silence and confinement comes with immense clarity I must say.

I’m well aware of the fact that things are difficult for a multitude of people out there and I pray things turn around for the best. I saw a quote that says, “Not all storms disrupt your path, some come around to clear it.” 2020 came with a great storm and I want to encourage you to take the good out of it. To all who lost a family member, friend, colleague, favorite singer or actor (which is all of us in one way or another), I hope you’re inspired by their lives to live better and make a good impact.

If there is one thing I’ve learned from all of this, it’s that we shouldn’t wait for bad things to happen before we appreciate the seemingly little good things we have going on for us. My prayer for you this September is that you find the much desired miracle you’ve been praying and hoping for. 2020 is not cancelled. I agree that it’s been a shitty year but we will keep pushing till the end. There is hope.

Welcome to September 2020!

To think I’ve been out of my job as a teacher for 5months now without salary was something I never ever thought I could survive any day.
But I’m thriving and I’ve survived the worst of it and I have God to thank for that. 2020 has been shitty indeed, this year too shall pass!
