A Number Of Things I’d Tell My 20-Year Old Self

Niccolo Machiavelli once said, “The more sand has escaped from the hourglass of our life, the clearer we should see through it.” If it were possible to go back in time, I have a few things I’d tell my 20-year old self. She will most definitely be stunned!

  • You have no business being in a “serious” relationship. Spend more time with yourself and cultivate other friendships.
  • Dream big. You have no idea what you’re capable of.
  • Don’t be in a hurry to grow up. Enjoy all the free money, relass and be taken kiaroff.😪
  • Put yourself first. It’s okay to help others but don’t over stretch yourself.
  • Your heart will break but it will only make you stronger. You underestimate your strength greatly.
  • Say ‘NO’ without explaining why. No is a complete sentence.
  • Social media is both a blessing and a curse. Be careful how you choose to use it.
  • Choose your battles wisely. Not everyone/everything deserves your attention.
  • Some bridges are best left burned. You can forgive and also let people go.
  • Your actions are your responsibility. Control your temper.
  • SAVE! Save before spending!
  • Daddy was right all along; Worry is worthless.
  • Stop wasting your money on high heeled shoes. Your knees can’t handle it.
  • There is love in friendship. It doesn’t have to be romantic before you know that it’s love.
  • Your days of writing in diaries, notebooks and random pieces of paper will earn you money someday. You should write more.
  • Don’t always agree because you want to avoid conflict. Speak your mind and gain balance.
  • You really don’t need to shop for clothes every month. Again, SAVE.
  • You’ve got style but you don’t know it yet. Keep exploring, you’re almost there.
  • You didn’t get married in your 20s and it turned out to be for your own good. They were your discovery years.
  • You will survive 2 more auto accidents and no bones in your body will break. God doesn’t joke with you and you need to realise it.

I do hope that 20-year old me is proud of who I am today. It’s about 70 days to my 30th birthday (I’m such a birthday person) and looking back, I can’t help but be grateful and relieved. My 20s were brutal, momentous and adventurous. If I could, I would change some things that occured but then, I had to learn those lessons.

Still in your 20s? How’s it going? Already in your 30s? What’s it like? Share with me.

Cheers to the ________ weekend! 💛 (You know what’s in the gap. 😉)
